Fashion // Little Black Dress Collection Launch

The little black dress is the ultimate fashion staple; a timeless, stylish and iconic piece that appears in virtually every woman's wardrobe. As Karl Lagerfeld said: "One is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a little black dress", Although the styling has changed over time, LBDs remain a girl's best friend due to the versatility and glamorous allure that proves perfect for almost every occasion. A few weeks ago,  Little Black Dress invited me along to the launch of their very own collection that naturally features a selection of the most gorgeously designed LBDs. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend in the end, but I still couldn't resist sharing the new collection with you! With an abundance of styles that are ideal for the upcoming party season, you won't be disappointed with Little Black Dress' new collection.

If you haven't heard of Little Black Dress before, they are a specialist online retailer that provides a hand picked selection of sumptuous party dresses and occasion wear from well known brands such as Forever Unique, Gorgeous Couture and Reiss. Their debut own-label collection hit the website a few weeks ago and each dress is individually designed and inspired by some of the most famous women in fashion history (After all, who wouldn't want to emulate the style of some of the biggest fashion icons in the world?). The 20 strong collection can be encapsulated into 5 different themes - Classic, Feminine, Unique, Glamorous and Sexy, with each piece incorporating the classic heritage of the little black dress and fusing it with the synonymous style of each fashion icon.
The Classic dresses feature slick silhouettes, tailored to flatter curves with subtle design detailing for an elegant and timeless style - much like the icons that inspired these dresses. In my opinion, these classic black dress are the ultimate wardrobe staples that can be worn time after time and will hold a space in your heart, and collection for years to come. The Jackie O dress is the ultimate shift dress that emulates strength and power. Kept simple, yet stylish with a tailored fit and capped sleeves, this timeless piece will be a favourite for the office. The Victoria dress has a sophisticated skater silhouette, made from a luxurious satin fabric for a subtle sheen. The dress also features a netted underskirt to extenuate the fit and flare style for added impact that even Posh Spice herself would be coveting. Coco Chanel, the creator of the LBD of course has her rightful place amongst the fashion icons that inspired this collection. The Coco dress combines a classic shift dress with the modern twist of sheer panelling across the neckline - I love the sweetheart neckline as well. A dress inspired by Marilyn Monroe wouldn't be complete without the iconic flared skirt. The Marilyn dress is a fun take on a classic, made from structured scuba fabric to help recreate the voluminous silhouette, with the added detailing of organza panels and a faux leather waistband - It's the perfect party dress for Christmas! Emma Watson is known for her classic, sophisticated style which resonates within the design of her inspired dress. The Emma Dress is a classic shift with origami pleats that really extenuates and flatters curves. It's a blank canvas, but would be SO easy to style with some statement necklaces and heels.
The Feminine dresses are less structured than those from the classic collection - with loose fitting silhouettes and drop waists with lots of touches of lace and sequins. If you love fun and girly designs,  inspired by some of the most stylish, young fashionistas of today then you will love these! Taylor Swift has such a distinctive style and she always manages to look amazing in ladylike, yet preppy outfits. The Taylor dress is made from a curve hugging scuba fabric with a on trend drop waist, flared skirt and sheer neckline. I love the added detail of the appliqué floral design across the neckline and skirt for a girly touch of romanticism. Chloe Moretz may be young but her style is already inspirational enough to be featured within this collection. The Chloe dress is a gorgeous halter neck design with an embellished choker, flowing swing dress design and lacy underskirt - it's perfect for evening cocktails! Blake's style has been lusted after ever since she played Serena in Gossip Girl with her sexy yet feminine style. The Blake dress means business, with a structured design made from scuba fabric but with a girly touch of lace panelling on the sides and back. Carrie Bradshaw has been a cult fashion icon since the inception of Sex and the City. The Carrie dress encapsulates her fun and playful style with a sequin bodice and full volume tulle skirt - if you are after the ultimate party dress this is it.

The Unique dresses celebrate the quirky fashion icons who like to stand out of the crowd with their individuality and unique sense of style. These dresses take inspiration from each icon's signature look to create a design that will be instantly recognisable. The Charlize dress is a stand out look to match the powerful woman that inspired the look. This daring number will be perfect on the dancefloor with flapper style detailing and sequins for added glitz and sparkle. Alexa Chung is known for her cool and kooky sense of style that sets the trends on the fashion market. The Alexa dress combines her quirky signature look into this mid length LBD with a Peter Pan collar and polka dot mesh detailing - it's sure to be a hit with the fashion crowd looking for something smart with a twist. Zooey is also famed for her quirkiness, but she often plays with a more retro edge to make her look truly unique and noticeable. The Zooey dress has a vintage style silhouette with fitted bodice and pleated skirt that's both flattering and fashionable. The retro styling is given a contemporary edge with the technical rubber coated mesh fabric, zip front and racer back for a fresh take on a classic.
The Glamorous dresses were made to be worn at glitzy event and are guaranteed to make you feel like you're on the red carpet (if only I had somewhere fancy enough to wear these). With simple, luxurious styling, be on the best dressed list at any event. Jennifer Lawrence has cemented her place on the best dressed lists at the glitziest events and awards ceremonies due to her breathtaking red carpet looks. The Jennifer dress takes inspiration from some of her best looks on the red carpet. This floor length dress features a cut out bodice, mesh inserts and a subtley sexy low back for a glamorous finish. Jessica Alba is a modern Hollywood icon who always manages to look perfect no matter what the occasion. From the front, the Jessica dress is a classic bodycon dress with a golden halterneck and the back is left open with a sexy crossover strap design. Rita Ora has been killing it on the red carpet lately with her elegant, old Hollywood style gowns. The Rita dress is another sweeping floor length number with a classy flared skirt and clever sequin panels that nip in at the waist to create that gorgeous hourglass figure. Audrey Hepburn has been synonymous with Hollywood glamour for decades, even today her style is still sought after and has cemented her place as one of the classic fashion icons of the world. Breakfast at Tiffany's was the main inspiration for the Audrey dress, it's a gorgeous dress with pleat detailing around the bust and a show stopping ostrich feather hem - it's oh so fabulous!
Last but not least are the sexy dresses; a girl's best friend on a night out to leave you feeling confident and fabulous whatever the event. These little black dresses will show off your best assets in flattering silhouettes with clever design detailing. Princess Diana was the original royal fashionista long before Kate Middleton arrived on the scene. She loved to take chances with her clothing and push the boundaries to show that royalty can look fashionable too. The Diana dress re-imagines one of her most iconic and daring styles into a contemporary, stand out piece. This figure hugging mini dress has a clever ruching design for an ultra flattering fit and is complete with a daring sweetheart/Bardot neckline and chiffon sash. Gemma Arterton is a Hollywood siren and famed for her role as a Bond girl. The Gemma Dress emulates all the classic sex appeal of a bond girl with a seductively low cowl back and figure hugging shape - a sexy yet classy design. Kate Moss is the ultimate fashion it girl who isn't afraid to make a statement with both a cool yet sexy style. The Kate dress recreates one of her iconic 90s looks, this simple midi dress is brought to life with an off the shoulder design that's complete with glamorous ostrich feathers - it's understated yet bound to make an impact at any party - I'm absolutely in love! Kristen Stewart has upped her fashion game of late, sitting front row at all of the major fashion shows and Chanel's current fashion darling, I love her sexy yet edgy styling. The Kristen dress has a ruched mini style with a quirky asymmetric sleeve design and cut out neckline. The use of faux leather adds an interesting edge and gives this style the added cool factor.

At price points from £65-£120 I think this collection is surprisingly affordable, considering the amount of design work put into each individual look and the high quality finish of the collection. If you have an event or party coming up, I think the Little Black Dress collection will be ideal for Christmas events, cocktail parties as well as nights out and for proms - especially if you are after something a bit different that you won't be able to find elsewhere on the high street. This collection is truly unique and I think it's such a clever concept to take design inspiration from some of the biggest fashion icons in the world - I can't wait to see what Little Black Dress will come up with next and who will be used as their next inspirational icons!

What do you think to Little Black Dress' debut collection?
