Fashion // Hints & Tips for Placement Year Applications

If you are currently studying fashion, whether that be marketing, buying or design related (amongst others), you will most likely have a work placement or placement year option included in your course. As many of you know, I study International Fashion Marketing at MMU and have just gone onto my final year after completing my placement year as a Buying/E-Commerce Assistant. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on placement and I'm sure your lecturers have already started drilling into you how important it is for you to gain a placement year - especially if you have just started your second year. Not only will it give you an insight into a job/company you may want to pursue a career with, it will also give you a heads up on the game with vital experience and contacts once you are looking for a graduate job. I must state that not everyone will get a placement year or decide to take one in the first place; that doesn't mean you are doomed to never find a job once you have graduated, I know many people on my course who have just graduated without taking the placement year option and have already gained jobs in the industry. It's not the be all and end all, but I would recommend it so you can experience not only the application process but also various job roles to give you a better idea of what you want to do, or not do once you graduate. I've decided to write this blog post to give my hints and tips to make the application process a lot easier for yourselves, to help take away some of the stress and to make sure you are fully prepared. Even if you don't have a placement year as part of your course, some of these tips can also be applied to help you find some short term/ part time work experience with a company or an internship during the holidays.

Fashion // Little Black Dress Collection Launch

The little black dress is the ultimate fashion staple; a timeless, stylish and iconic piece that appears in virtually every woman's wardrobe. As Karl Lagerfeld said: "One is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a little black dress", Although the styling has changed over time, LBDs remain a girl's best friend due to the versatility and glamorous allure that proves perfect for almost every occasion. A few weeks ago,  Little Black Dress invited me along to the launch of their very own collection that naturally features a selection of the most gorgeously designed LBDs. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend in the end, but I still couldn't resist sharing the new collection with you! With an abundance of styles that are ideal for the upcoming party season, you won't be disappointed with Little Black Dress' new collection.

New York Fashion Week SS15, NYFW, The best of New York Fashion Week SS15, NYFW SS15 highlights
September is more than just the start of autumn, it's also signifies the start of Fashion month - And it's that time of year when the hottest designers, editors, models and celebrities all descend onto the streets of New York to watch the catwalk shows and presentations that will give us that first glimpse of the trends to look out for come next spring. It's all very exciting and I can't wait to see what my favourite designers have in store over the next few weeks. I have previously discussed couture week collections on my blog, so I thought it would be fun to also write a round up of my favourite catwalk collections and looks that have graced New York Fashion Week. So let's begin..

Beauty // Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain Review

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain Review and Swatches, 001 India Intrigue, 035 Miami Fever, 045 New York Scene

Last month, Revlon released the latest addition to their ever growing Colorstay range - the Colorstay Moisture Stains; a 12 strong range of vibrantly coloured lip products with a creamy formula and glass like finish that promises to drench your lips with colour and moisture. These are just one of many hybrid lip products to appear on the market recently, similar to that of the L'Oreal Colour Riche  L'Extraordinaire Liquid Lipsticks that I reviewed earlier on in the year. Revlon is one of my favourite high street cosmetics brands and I was instantly attracted to the sleek looking packaging and the promise of long lasting colour. So when the official release date arrived I hopped on down to Boots and picked 3 of my favourite shades to try out for myself.

Travel // Kefalonia Photo Diary Pt 1

Myrtos bay, kefalonia

I apologise in advance as this will be a very photo heavy post! A couple of weeks ago I headed to Kefalonia with my University friends Leah & Rachel and my boyfriend John for a relaxing week in the sun full of wine, sunbathing and lots of delicious Greek food. If you are unfamiliar with Kefalonia, it is an island off the west coast of Greece that has the most breathtaking scenery with a mountainous landscape and some of the most stunning white pebble beaches. Compared to other Greek islands, it is a lot less touristy; it's not the place to come if you are looking for a party destination, but it's perfect for an laid back week in the Grecian sun where you can discover and explore what the island has to offer or relax to your heart's content. Now let's get on with the photo diary..

Beauty | Seventeen Falsifeye HD Mascara Review

Seventeen Falsifeye HD Mascara Review,

I'm one of those girls who just loves eye make up, without eyeliner and mascara I feel completely naked and you would definitely not catch me leaving the house without it - even on holiday I will wear waterproof eyeliner and mascara - my obsession is that bad! My eyes in my opinion are my best facial feature; a bold flick of jet black eyeliner with lovely long and volumised eyelashes is definitely my go-to look to help emphasise my eyes and make them stand out. I am always on the look out for the *perfect* eyeliner and mascara, I tend to switch between brands quite a bit to try out different products as I have yet to find a mascara or eyeliner that's been 100% perfect for me. I was browsing the make up stands in Boots when the Seventeen Falsifeye HD Mascara caught my eye with its' cute packaging and big claims for 'corner to corner volume and length for High Definition impact'. I was very intrigued by this mascara, although I had never tried a mascara from Seventeen prior to this, I have been pleasantly surprised by a couple of their other products in the past, so I thought I would give it a go and see if it lived up to the bold claims being made on the packaging.
